A Sad Goodbye

Wednesday, November 18th, 2009

jess&i

Obviously, you all have noticed that Jules and I have not been updating the blog lately (that is if anyone still checks here!). I am sad to say that this post will be our last on Noel Marie due to a rash of circumstances.

Jules has had some things change in her life that have not allowed any time to continue to post and since I am attempting to have an interior decorating business (and hopefully a storefront at some point), I don’t have the time to take on this blog all by myself. We are both super bummed, hence the reason that we have avoided writing this final post!

We want to thank you all for reading and leaving comments and making this space such a fun part of our lives. We had big dreams of making Noel Marie a common name in the blog world, but life sometimes has different things in to for you.

You can still find me over at Birdhouse and I do try to post on the Birdhouse Blog. I would love it if you would follow me (once again, as I think I’m settled!) to that site and I hope to get back into the groove of supporting all of your blogs again.

Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Lisey’s Story

Monday, September 14th, 2009

(It was Saturday morning and a no makeup day)

I am tired. I am so busy. I am whining, sorry. But, I am also in love with my beautiful new addition to our family… Lisey (Lee-see), a beagle/tree hound mix that we rescued from the humane society this past weekend. Her name comes from the protagonist in Stephen King’s Lisey’s Story.

She is only 2 months old, hence the tired part since she can only hold her little bladder for a couple of hours before she has to go. She knows no real commands and has a good disposition but is terrified of the world. I would assume this has to be good training for a future little guy running around. Or at least for a little guy pooping and peeing all the time.

A Little Something New…

Wednesday, September 9th, 2009

Picture 2

How great is this picture of Amy Sedaris?

I’ve been thinking for a while that I need to challenge myself a little more to maintain a schedule, stop watching so much television and being all together lazy, and start working towards really achieving some of my goals in life. I started something called “Worthwhile Wednesdays” over on The Homebound (which is no longer active – one too many blogs) which focused on once a week creating something new and redirecting my focus back on being thoughtful about my daily activities.

As I am following my passion and working with clients over at Birdhouse, I realize that it can really feed your soul and inspire you when you keep your mind challenged and surround yourself with other creative individuals. I have decided to reinstate “Worthwhile Wednesdays” as often as possible and make my Wednesday post a video post chronicling my attempts at different projects. These projects could range from baking a cake to attempting to install a light fixture. To be honest, I don’t really know what they will be, I just know I need some sort of direction to help me stay motivated as I surf through the rocky waves that is starting your own small business.

I also would love to include some submissions from people and do plan on sharing a short video of a wonderful artist couple answering why they are artists and how they maintain motivation when being a professional artist doesn’t exactly put food on the table. So, stay tuned ’til next week. I hope everyone’s attention span is longer than mine and you are willing to come back!

Small note on the subject: I think there may be some more foul language than either Jules or I have used in the past. Frankly, I can’t stand censoring myself as much as I do now (in real life, it’s like living with a sailor) and if I am going to be trying new things (and possibly failing at them) I’m gonna need to drop some S-bombs. I will try not to drop the F-bomb, only because my mother will yell at me and guilt me into thinking I’m offending some innocent’s ears.

Midwest Lovin’

Tuesday, September 1st, 2009

SummerMeal

As promised, here she is, my favorite summer meal. This is so easy and quick to prepare. The thing I miss most about the Midwest in the summer is sweet corn on the cob. If you haven’t tried it in the Midwest, you’ve never tasted corn. And nothing pairs better with fresh sweet corn than a BLT with crispy bacon, fresh tomatoes, lettuce, and mayo (Miracle Whip is best in my opinion). I prefer toasted bread, but once in awhile like to switch it up on my third or fourth sandwich and try it untoasted. Although I almost always buy wheat bread, I think BLTs taste best on white. Again, since I don’t eat meat, I subbed Morning Star Bacon Strips as my ‘facon’. It tastes uncannily similar to real bacon. Obviously real bacon is better, but this is a close second for sure.

Bacon

A good rule of thumb I use when cooking corn on the cob is 3 minutes per ear in boiling water. So my two ears got about 6 minutes. I mean, you just need to warm it up – you could practically eat it straight off the cob.

Corn

Add tons of butter, and lots of salt and pepper and you are set.

Anxiously Awaiting Fashion Week

Thursday, August 27th, 2009

I am so excited for New York Fashion Week which is exactly two weeks away!! This is the first year I will be participating in a bunch of fun events. And this was just added to the list of many last night…

Another event which I am very excited to attend…

DressUpSoiree

My friend Jess in New York or ‘Brooklyn Jess’, as we call her to distinguish from NoëlMarie’s or ‘Omaha Jess’ (doesn’t help that their last names are set apart by only one letter), will be in attendance with me and I am really excited! Click here for details. I hope to meet all of you NY bloggers (and visiting bloggers) there! More to come…

New Album Recommendation

Thursday, August 27th, 2009

MewEP

Well this is the EP, but if you look over to your right, you will see the newly released album by Mew, No more stories Are told today I’m sorry They washed away No more stories The world is grey I’m tired Let’s wash away. Longest album title EVER!! So this is our new album recommendation for all of you lovely readers out there. They are a Danish band and I discovered them on my trip to Copenhagen over the summer. I also had the pleasure of attending their show on Monday at the Music Hall of Williamsburg. They have really cool (and some, a little disturbing) animated videos during their shows, and their lead singer, Jonas, does all those illustrations himself. It is a really fun and unique album to listen to, so you should at least go check out a few songs on iTunes to see if it’s for you. Oh, and we will be changing this monthly from here on out, so don’t be a dawdler.

To be continued…

Picture 6

I have to postpone my little sushi video until Monday, as I feel like death and spent the better part of the night making out with the bathroom toilet. Seriously too much info, I know, sorry. So I will only say this; I don’t think I will be eating at Wendy’s for quite some time since their chicken sandwich didn’t treat me very well.

Check out the video on Monday! Laying back on the couch now, watching the Food Network. Peace out.

They Say it’s Your Birthday…

Monday, August 10th, 2009

Picture 3

Well it’s my birthday too, Ya! So friends, I am taking the day off to be completely self-absorbed and self-indulgent (my favorite kind of day!). Sushi and martinis for dinner tonight which is going to make me very, very happy.

Then, stay tuned later in the week for my attempt at homemade sushi. I am going to finally bust out my new little video camera and chronicle my voyage into the world of Japanese cuisine that I’m sure will be a trainwreck. Cheers!

If You’re In the Area…

Friday, August 7th, 2009

Picture 1

Come to the Clean Plate opening night at Empty Room (13th and Webster/Saddle Creek Records Complex ). As you can see there will be good food, good booze, good music, and good fun.

Don’t know about Clean Plate and the Empty Room project? Well, you will hear about it in great detail in about a month when I share an awesome interview with the creator of Clean Plate, Elle Lien. But quickly, Empty Room was a project that invited the public to submit business ideas and the best ideas were given one month’s free commercial rental space to showcase their project. Pretty rad, eh?

Clean Plate is one idea chosen and is a farm-to-table restaurant focusing on completely natural foods without any extra processing. Elle is cooking everything herself and using food grown by local farmers.

Should be a fun night!
