Basil Martini

Picture 6

I never thought about infusing vodka with basil before! I’m on it now that I found this recipe. We have so much in our backyard billowing out and attacking the other herbs, so I am excited for something else to do with it. On the mission this weekend.

Basil Martini:

Fill a shaker with ice, add a dash of vermouth, shake, and strain. Add 2 jiggers basil-infused vodka. Shake vigorously; strain. Note: 1 jigger equals approximately 1 1/2 ounces. (Recipe Via: Better Homes and Gardens)

    YUM!

We’ve been making a ton of lemon-basil syrup over the last few weeks. It’s great with vodka or gin and also livens up iced tea (recipe for gimlets here: http://wellfed.typepad.com/well_fed/2007/08/lemon-basil-vod.html).

I have to recommend my all-time favorite cocktail (and I’ve had many a cocktail in my day) with basil: Plantation
Basil and demarera sugar muddled with Plymouth Gin, Cointreau, fresh lime juice and grapefruit juice, shaken and double-strained up. Spring in a glass. If you’re in the Brooklyn locale, you can drink this up at Quarter, in South Park Slope (5th ave and 20th). Divine!

Hmmm…I wouldn’t have thought of adding basil, either. This sounds like it would be great paired with Italian food.
