Remind Me Why I Bought This Again/Cleaning Out Your Closet
So I just moved (again), and decided it was time to clean out my closet (again). By the time I was done, I had three garbage bags full of some of my old college t-shirts, sweatshirts, stuff that hasn't been in style since I graduated high school in the year 2000 - well you get the point...things I needed to get rid of. I kept a few that I shouldn't have but we all have items which hold a special place in our heart. I did pretty good, if I do say so myself, of letting go of most of the unnecessary things that I've been hauling apartment to apartment in New York (and some much, much longer). It was tough, but very liberating in a sense and I highly recommend you do the same. Plus it frees up some of the minimal closet space provided for those of us living in NY. Take a look at the lot.
(please disregard my canary yellow pumps - they have this terrible karma attached)
Anyway, I took all my clothes down to Beacon's Closet in Brooklyn. I thought they would just laugh at my things and tell me that I should be paying them for taking it off of my hands, but I was wrong. I made just over $100 off my clothes, and the clothes they don't sell is then donated to charity. They are selling $300 worth of my clothes, but you only get 35% if you take cash, 55% for store credit. Unfortunately I didn't find anything in there that day that suited me, but I strongly suggest going this route when getting rid of old clothes. It's a win/win and there are places like this in most cities. I never thought it was worth it...until now, with a crisp $100 bill in my pocket (ok, it was five 20 dollar bills, but still). Do it. Who needs those spandex volleyball shorts you've been carting around since high school or those ugly Christmas sweaters you've been saving just in case there's another ugly Christmas sweater party next year??

I need to do this! Thank you for the reminder… Have a great weekend and don’t spend the money all in one place (wink) – unless it’s Nordstroms!
my friends in phoenix used to throw closet cleaning parties, everyone cleans out their closets, brings it all to the party, takes home anything of someone else’s they like, then the group takes the rest to a clothing exchange and takes the proceeds for martinis at the nearest bar. fun for everyone
That is such a great idea! Maybe we could set up some type of virtual exchange sale. Hmm, thoughts?
It makes me cringe to think of all the clothes I don’t wear in my closet… I’ve been talking about doing a clothing swap with some girlfriends for a while, and this just might give me the kick in the pants to do it!
I have been meaning to do the same for months – I really, really need to get rid of a lot of stuff & free up much-needed closet space.
I love purging! It feels sooooooo good!

Many thanks with the well-thought article. I’m in fact at perform correct now! So I must go off without reading through all I’d like. But, I put your blog site on my RSS feed to ensure that I can study much more….
